Foster Carer Story Rescue Award 2022

The Rabbit Sanctuary is very proud of Volunteer Foster Carer Charlie (Charlene) Simon who bravely spoke of how fostering rescue rabbits has helped her after losing her beloved daughter in a terrible event.  Read Charlie's entry below.

26 October, 2022 | Foster Carer StoryFoster Carer Story Winner 2022                                                                                                                        When my daughter was killed in November of 2020 I found myself spending a lot of time with my rabbits outside in the garden.

It was strange these creatures new I needed them at this difficult time and they were there for me always, sitting next to me giving me kisses and letting me know they were there.

I didn’t understand the power of these beautiful creatures and decided I wanted to find some good in this dark period of my life.

I reached out to a few rabbit rescues and the rabbit sanctuary was the first one to contact me back and within a couple of weeks I had a new foster. She needed me and made me get out of bed and really smile for the first time in a long time. She was so happy to explore and have space and she knew I had other rabbits but couldn’t spend time with them. She wanted to. She wanted friendship. I could see it in her actions. She was content hanging around me exploring her new house and the safe spaces she was given. We got really close and she would come to my call, no matter where she was.
